Kitchen Essentials

I think a reason why people believe that eating healthy is difficult is because after a long day, thinking about cooking can be overwhelming. It can be easier though, by having foods that quickly bring together delicious and healthy meals. Here's a list of some foods I love having in my kitchen that make meal planning easier for me:

 Bananas

Bananas are great inexpensive fruits that can satisfy your sweet tooth. Try them in smoothies, or replace ice cream with “nice” cream by blending frozen bananas for a refreshing treat. Customize your “nice” cream by adding toppings!

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a healthy dairy free alternative! Use it to add creaminess to dishes, or a milk replacement in recipes. It can also be added to smoothies for a yummy coconut flavor!

Canned Tomatoes

A can of tomatoes can be a base for dishes for when you are confused about where to start. Pair canned tomatoes with some veggies to make a soup or curry. Making a homemade pasta sauce is so quick and easy, you won't even think about  buying the jarred stuff again!

Lemons

Lemons are full of flavor and are a quick way to add brightness. Make a light salad dressing with lemon and olive oil. Or add acidity to dishes by squeezing lemon. Lemon can always be squeezed into water to replace sugary sodas!

Greek Yogurt

Greek Yogurt has so many uses and you'll literally always want it in your fridge. It's a healthy substitute for sour cream, mayo, and lots more. Plain Greek yogurt is also a perfect base for dips or salad dressing, just add whatever flavors you like!

Beans

Beans are awesome for completing meals. Add them to soup, have a meatless taco night, or make some bean burgers! Make a bunch of burgers and stick them in the freezer for ready meals!

Frozen Veggies

Frozen veggies are a lifesaver. You can have nutritious meals anytime without the worry of waste. Fresh produce can also be frozen so it's ready whenever you are. The uses for frozen veggies are endless!
