About Antioxidants

Antioxidants are the protectors in the body that fight off harmful substances. These harmful substances are known as “free radicals”. Free radicals appear in the body as a result of digestion of refined foods as well as exposure to pollutants such as tobacco. These free radicals are known to cause damage to cell structure, which may increase risk for medical conditions like cancer and heart disease. These conditions are thought to be hereditary, however lifestyle practices are a way to decrease your risk.

Antioxidants can protect cells from this sort of damage. The term “antioxidant” refers to a substance's ability to maintain the health of cells.
